Day After Thanksgiving

I am preparing materials for art classes for the next three weeks. Right up to winter break!

Students are working on painting projects, positive and negative space exercises, and relief printing.

I will be adding to my pet portraits soon. My dog Mazy is going to be my first subject. She is the most beautiful and sweetest Samoyed that we have owned. My family and I always will have a dog as part of the family.

A Rainy Wednesday

Oh, my gosh. The rain is falling, and I am at the computer typing this blog. I hear the raindrops hitting the skylight in my art studio; it is a relaxing sound. We are in the season of fall, and the leaves are changing colors. On my morning walks, I especially see the changes in the leaves of maple trees. Fall is my favorite season because of its beautiful color but also because of a CHANGE and a beginning to a new school year. I loved starting out with new classes of students. Getting to know each of my students' personalities and talents, it was wonderful! Fall will always represent for my family my mother's popcorn balls and winter squash and occasional homemade taffy apples. Do you see where my priorities lie? Food...tasty and comforting.

Mom's Roses

I spent nearly a week at my mother's in the North Woods. My mother had a beautiful bunch of off white roses setting on her dining room table. I thought it would make a great theme for one of my first published watercolors. Roses are one of the most diverse flowers to be used in floral arrangements for special occasions such as weddings, Valentine's Day, birthdays, engagements, and funerals. For Mom, it was to put a little beauty, a little comfort in her home after Dad's passing. Flowers help to cheer you up, even when you buy them for yourself. It was a sweet visit with my mother with long conversations, shopping, and meals together. I needed to see for myself that Mom was doing alright.

Art is...

For an artist, the end result is not all that I see. I experience the process of getting to the completed work. Call it daydreaming...or thinking about my world, every step or brush stroke leads me to the next with the thoughts of the day, with problems to solve. Much goes into a painting, more than the colors I choose, the pigments from the paint tube, or the right mix with water. Contemplating over my personal world, I think of what story my daughter will tell when she walks in the door after school or the tough loss of my father to cancer this summer. On a lighter note, the constant dilemma is always what to fix for dinner.
A watercolorist or painter has to find her own style of painting, and as a former art teacher, my style is not set to one type. I am still developing a style through that process I mentioned.

I am a watercolorist from Illinois who is looking for a market for my art. My subjects are: florals, landscapes, pets and wildlife, people, and abstracts. Soon I will upload some artwork for sale. I have been interested in art since I was in 3rd grade. That was some time ago!
